In London, we took the ease of baby clothing shopping for granted. It was so easy to hop on a bus, cab or train and within 15 minutes be at a “high street fashion” shop, deciding on what colors best suited Bethypoo and the appropriate styles for the given season. Plus, Bethypoo was happily oblivious to our decisions on her dress sense.
Now, she’s an independent toddler intent on defining herself, and we live in Petaluma, a small town far, far away from the shops of London we’ve grown accustomed to.
We’ve found a few children’s boutiques near us, but with a growing child it doesn’t make much sense to us to spend so much on clothing that will not fit in a few weeks. As for the Factory Outlets also nearby, we’ve had to settle on most of our purchases after a deep and thorough search of the racks, or leave empty-handed and disappointed.
So whenever Bethypoo needs an immediate wardrobe update, we make the hour-long drive to Union Square in San Francisco for our three favorite clothing stores all located within a five minute walk of each other: Old Navy, H&M, and Zara. Bethypoo is very familiar with the sizes and styles of H&M and Zara from her London days, and Old Navy is perfect for her play clothes. Despite the toll across Golden Gate Bridge, the price of parking at the Union Square Garage, and the traffic jams both in the City and on the 101 freeway, we always end up having a blast!
One of Bethypoo’s favorite clothing stores from the United Kingdom, Next, has a US-based website that offers decent and affordable apparel, http://www.nextdirect.com. It’s also pretty hard to beat free express shipping!
